Over our 40-year history, we’ve had the privilege of working with some truly special bikes. From the early machines that helped define our journey, to bespoke custom builds, unforgettable Christmas surprises, and everything in between, every bike that passes through Chevin carries its own story.
But every so often, something comes along that raises the bar entirely.
This Trek Madone SLR 9 is one of those moments. Finished in the breathtaking Trek Project One ICON Chroma – Ultra Iridescent livery, it is a bike that simply refuses to blend in. The colour shifts and dances in the light, turning an already world class race machine into a rolling piece of art.
Its rarity, craftsmanship, and unmistakable presence make it truly one of a kind, and it proudly earns its place as the most expensive bike we have ever sold. More than just a milestone for us, this Madone represents the pinnacle of performance, design, and individuality. A celebration of how far we’ve come, and a reminder of why exceptional bikes will always be at the heart of what we do and build.
Now more of what makes this bike.
The Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8 is built to dominate the road, blending ultra light weight with relentless aerodynamic efficiency. At its core is Trek’s highest level 900 Series OCLV Carbon, an advanced layup that’s not only astonishingly light, but meticulously shaped to slice through the air on flat out straightaways and high speed descents alike.
This particular bike is built to be ready to conquer any podium at the very highest level. A flagship SRAM RED AXS E1 13-speed drivetrain with integrated power meter delivers flawless, wireless precision, while Bontrager Aeolus RSL 51 carbon wheels balance aerodynamic advantage with confident handling across varied terrain. Up front, the Trek Aero RSL one piece carbon bar and stem create a clean, aggressive cockpit that maximises stiffness, control, and speed.
Aerodynamics go even further with Trek’s RSL Aero Bottles and Cages, designed as part of the complete rider system rather than as afterthoughts. Developed and proven by Trek’s factory Lidl Trek Racing Team, this race tested setup reduces drag where it matters most, making the Madone faster in real world conditions, not just in the wind tunnel.
It’s no surprise that Outside Cycling described the Madone as “like nothing else.” This is a bike engineered without compromise, where every detail exists for one purpose: to go faster.
Now obviously, any bike can have this high level of components and spec, but not every bike can have this colour.
This build features a Trek Project One ICON livery, Project One ICON represents the very pinnacle of Trek’s custom paint artistry. These premium finishes are about far more than eye catching colour, they’re defined by depth, texture, and atmosphere. Every ICON design is the result of meticulous craftsmanship, showcasing a mastery of brush and paint that reflects the passion and experience of Trek’s most skilled Project One artists.
Ultra Iridescent is a standout within the ICON collection. One of eight premium paint schemes unveiled at the 2023 Tour de France, it instantly captured attention. In a peloton filled with bikes from every corner of the world, this jaw dropping design was impossible to ignore, and it didn’t just turn heads, it won races. Ridden to victory on Stage 8 by Lidl-Trek rider and reigning World Champion Mads Pedersen, Ultra Iridescent proved it had a performance pedigree to match its presence.
The lustrous finish shifts effortlessly through shades of blue, purple, and orange, creating a mesmerising oil slick effect that comes alive in changing light. It’s bold, expressive, and utterly distinctive, an ICON in every sense of the word.
The Chroma collection’s paint process is an intricate and painstaking recipe, refined through nearly five years of trial and error. Ultra Iridescent is especially meaningful, as its origin story perfectly embodies the spirit of Project One: the idea that dream bikes aren’t just built for riders, but dreamed up by the artists themselves.
The design began as a passion project during a friendly creative competition within Trek’s paint shop. Painter Jason McGuire spent hours outside of work perfecting a concept for his wife Michelle, also a Project One painter. What emerged was a gleaming, oil slick masterpiece that spanned the full spectrum of colour. That ‘side project’ would eventually become Ultra-Iridescent.
After a few refinements, the rest is history. Jason’s creation debuted on the world stage at cycling’s most prestigious race and has since earned its place as one of Trek’s most awe-inspiring premium paint schemes a true celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and the art of the bicycle.
